On November ,2023, under the guidance of the Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology and the “Science and Technology Innovation in China” Greater Bay Area Alliance, the “Cross-border Innovation: China-Europe Medical Technology Exchange Event” was jointly organized by the Shenzhen Science and Technology Exchange Service Center and Gensol. The event took place at the Shenzhen New Industry Park with the theme “Smart Healthcare, Leading the Future.” Utilizing a combination of on-site and live-streaming participation, the event attracted over a hundred industry experts, entrepreneurs, representatives from financial institutions, and more from both domestic and international backgrounds. Leaders such as Sun Nan, a member of the Party Group of the Shenzhen Association for Science and Technology, and Li Song, the director of the Shenzhen Science and Technology Exchange Service Center, attended the event.
Sun Nan expressed in his opening speech that China and Europe are important economic and trade partners with vast cooperation potential at bilateral and multilateral levels. He emphasized the significance of collaboration in the medical technology sector and hoped for expanded cooperation in cutting-edge fields like life sciences, promoting collaboration between industry, academia, and research, and facilitating the transformation and application of technological innovation achievements. Dr. Wolfgang Penzias, Former Director-General for Innovation in the European Commission, Former Trade Counselor of Austria to the Gulf States, and Head of ETIIC Swiss Innovation Center; Dr. Xia Zhidao, Senior Lecturer in Regenerative Medicine at Swansea University Medical School and Visiting Researcher in Orthopedics at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, delivered speeches online.
During the keynote speech session, Professor Qin Ling, Academician of the National Academy of Medicine and Bioengineering in the United States, gave a presentation on “Collaborative Models and Practices in the Field of Orthopedics.” His speech covered collaborative research and development of new orthopedic products between medical device companies and academic institutions, conducting clinical trials, and medical data analysis. This provided valuable experiences and insights for the attending entrepreneurs. Zheng Xudong, Chairman of Shenzhen Laili Sai Biotechnology Co., Ltd., Sara Medina, Head of the ENRICH Center for Research and Innovation of the European Union, and Jake Watkin, Head of International Affairs at the UK-China Innovation and Development Platform, delivered presentations on the latest trends in medical technology and cooperation opportunities between China and Europe, offering insights into accelerating international cooperation in medical technology and commercializing research results.
During the project roadshow session, seven companies from the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, and Australia presented their projects, covering aspects such as business models, core technologies, competitive advantages, and market planning. Representatives from investment institutions and enterprises engaged actively with the roadshow participants, exchanging thoughts on technical advancements, growth potential, and expressing significant interest and attention.
The event aimed to assist European delegation companies in establishing connections with potential local partners, investors, and other ecosystem collaborators in Shenzhen. It provided a comprehensive and diversified platform for extensive communication among investors and entrepreneurs, facilitating intelligent collisions and collaborative innovation within the industry. The event successfully bridged local financial institutions and European medical technology enterprises for deeper cooperation.
