On October 15, 2024, the “Cross-Border Sci-Tech Innovation” Translational Medicine Series — Seminar on Chinese Medical Devices Entering the UK Market was successfully held, hosted by the Shenzhen Science and Technology Exchange Service Center and organized by Gensol (Shenzhen ) Tech Innovation Center Co., Ltd. Industry representatives from Shenzhen and the London Chamber of Commerce gathered to explore new opportunities for collaboration in the medical device sector.
Lord Waverley Anderson, Executive Chairman of GoGlobal UK, noted that with rapid technological advances and an aging population, the medical device industry is facing unprecedented opportunities. In this context, international cooperation plays an increasingly important role in promoting technology exchange, accelerating innovation, and enhancing industry competitiveness. Anderson highlighted the vast potential for UK-China collaboration in medical devices, emphasizing that China’s strong manufacturing base and impressive R&D achievements give Chinese medical device companies promising opportunities in the UK and global markets.
Speakers shared insights on the international growth of medical device companies. Alan Rees, CEO of the West London Chamber of Commerce, outlined the UK market and entry strategies. Professor Donald James Lewis of the University of San Francisco and GoGlobal Trade China explained UKCA certification and compliance. Qiu Zhaojun, MD of UK International Connect, offered tips on using overseas exhibitions to enter the UK market. Senior Partner Liu Wenzhuo from Huashang Law highlighted potential legal risks and mitigation strategies. The session gave participants a clear understanding of the UK market and practical guidance for international expansion.
The seminar was strongly supported by co-organizers including the Futian District Enterprise Service Center, Futian Investment Promotion Bureau, UK-China Local Economic and Trade Cooperation Association, Shenzhen Medical Device Industry Association, National High-Performance Medical Device Innovation Center, and Shenzhen Health Industry Development Association. It provided Chinese medical device companies with valuable learning and networking opportunities, helping them contribute more to the global industry.
